Prof. Nicola Portinaro attended the XXXIV SICP National Congress on The neurological Foot
The 2016 SICP National Congress took place at the “Giovanni Agnelli” Automobile Museum in Turin.
SICP is The Italian Society of Ankle and Foot and the two days’ work focused on two main themes:
“The Neurological Foot” which is a frequent pathology in clinical practice. This condition was analyzed in separate sessions dedicated to:
the basic sciences
the surgical treatment in general
the treatment of the peripheral pathology and central pathology of the secondary foot, the orthotic and rehabilitative treatment.
Professor Portinaro’s speeches concerned the sessions related to the neurological foot and were about the pros and cons of the treatment of Cerebral palsy based on gait analysis and the condition of the foot in children affected by cerebral palsy.
“The Foot and the Racing“: the numerous osteoarticular and musculotendinous pathologies that affect the foot and ankle of the increasing number of runners.
The central part of this last session developed through a round-table discussion on “The pursuit of performance and the prevention of the pathology”. Several professional took part in this session (shoe technicians, orthosis technicians, athletic trainers, physicians and professional athletes).
Other sessions were dedicated to the biomechanics of the foot during the race and to the main foot pathologies caused by this sport.
